HM Sultan Qaboos Bin Said condoles death of Umm Al Quwain ruler

MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has sent a cable of condolences to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, on the death of Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, member of the UAE Supreme Council and ruler of Umm Al Quwain. His Majesty the Sultan expressed his condolences to the president, his government and the people of the UAE.

Sheikh Rashid, who was in his seventies, died yesterday in a London hospital. The sheikh had headed Umm Al Quwain, one of seven members of the UAE, since 1981.

The UAE began a week of official mourning, during which flags will fly at half-mast. Government departments will remain closed for three days.
